Description
This is a handsome restored antique dentists cabinet which dates to the early 20th century.
It is a rare and unusual piece which could serve a variety of uses, lending itself well to use as a collectors cabinet or jewellers chest.
The cabinet is very well made and is solid and heavy, made from oak, mixed woods and veneers.
The front of the cabinet is fitted with an arrangement of ten graduated drawers, a single cupboard and a double cupboard fitted with internal oak slides. The shelves and drawer bases have been lined in white leatherette, giving a smart and clean finish.
The top of the base section is fitted with a piece of glass inset on top of white leatherette, above this sits a removable top section which has three leaded glass doors fitted with textured and stained glass.
The drawers have small turned wooden knobs and the doors are lockable.
The cabinet is set on large vintage shepherd castors which makes it easy to move about.
The wood has a waxed finish.
Condition
This piece has been restored by my partner Paul in our Devon workshop.
Paul has turned new knobs for the drawers, replaced the glass to the top of the base section, lined and refinished the drawer and cupboard interiors and refinished the tired woodwork, adding vintage shepherd castors to the base.
The cabinet is in very solid structural condition with minor cosmetic marks, including small areas of veneer loss and minor dents and knocks. The glazed left had door is missing its small internal door catch.
