Its always been a passion for me the Arts and Crafts movement. The items for sale are a reflection of Arts & Crafts, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, modernism, aesthetic movement, anglo Japanese, period antiques, decorative items, Cotswold School, limed oak, British architecture, architects/designers/craftsmen. Glasgow school.
These are the oak chairs on the far right .(last photo) .twelve available.
In my opinion the best designed chairs by Richard Norman Shaw .(commercially) .Or from his offices .
Designed for the Tabard Inn at Bedford Park .
Also in my opinion closest to the whole ideology of arts and crafts .One can see the beginnings on the right and then going left towards commercialism but maintaining quality .
Each one of these chairs are of high quality .
Not just quality but design .
Think about the "thought process" of the design .
Then think about the cost of manufacturing / making these chairs .Its like individually carved tops ,slats, turned legs (some with feet).
More photos to add on a drier day .(rain ).
One book has these chairs as 1876 .(as does V&A ).
One dealer has refuted these claims that they were designed by R.N.Shaw albeit the general consensus by dealers/auctioneers/books etc are that they were designed by R.N.Shaw at his office(s)
Sold by Morris & co .(as can be seen in old Trade adverts ) .
