Description
This is a rose gold trench wristwatch, made for the British military and used during World War II. This watch comes with its original brown leather strap, making it a perfect collector’s item. Dial:- The white enamel dial has bold golden Arabic numerals, minute markers and luminous hands. There is a subsidiary second’s dial at the six. Movement:- The Swiss made movement is a manual calibre anchor movement with 15 Jewels. This watch has had a complete service and is in great working condition. However, we cannot guarantee the complete accuracy of any vintage watch. Case:- The rose gold (375) snap back case is 32mm wide, excluding the crown. It has a 14mm wire lug width. The inner case is signed “Made in England, C.A” and numbered 17636. It is hallmarked for Birmingham, 1942. More Information about Military Trench Wristwatches:- The Trench watch (wristlet) was a type of watch that came into use with the military during World War I, as pocket watches were not practical in combat. It was a design to bring that made pocket watches into the wristwatches we know today, incorporating features of both. The first watch that somebody adapted to wear on the wrist is unknown. The first series of purpose-made wristwatches was produced by Girard-Perregaux in 1880 for the German Navy. During World War I numerous companies, including Omega, Longines, and others, produced wristwatches for the military. These watches were of a virtually identical style with an enamel dial, wide white numerals, and a luminescent hour hand. They often did not bear the name of the manufacturer, though the movement, originally designed in the 1890s for ladies’ pendant watches, was marked "Swiss". The trench wristwatch inherited the hinged front and back cover from the pocket watches. The lugs for the strap were a thick wire attachment to the classical round shape of the pocket watches instead of the more modern style of the integration of the lugs to the body. Until the early 1930s the name ‘wristlet’ was used and then it was eventually replaced with the name ‘wristwatch’. For price enquiries, feel free to email me.
