Royal Copenhagen, Private Commission Set of Twelve Hans Christian Andersen Plates

Offered for sale is a complete set of twelve, Hans Christian Andersen Fairy Tale Plates by Royal Copenhagen. These twelve plates were a private commission by the renowned artist Pauline Ellison for Royal Copenhagen in celebration of the well-loved fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of his death (1805 - 1875). Each plate is decorated with a beautifully executed scene from a fairy tale edged by a thin gold band and the plate is edged with a gilded decorative band that contains depictions of swans, flowers, birds and butterflies. To the reverse of each plate is the Royal Copenhagen backstamp with blue wavy lines beneath, numbered 9628. Beneath which is stamped Private Commission, The Hans Christian Andersen Plates, followed by the title of the fairy tale depicted, beneath which is a copyright symbol 1975 Pauline Ellison.
