Description
Offered for sale is a Royal Doulton "Falstaff” figurine. It was designed by renowned Royal Doulton Art Director Charles J Noke in 1949 and was first issued in 1950.
Sir John Falstaff is a fictional character who appears in three plays by William Shakespeare as a companion to Prince Hal, the future King Henry V.
Falstaff is wearing a pink shirt which his ample belly has stretched to the garment's limits. He has a cape which has been caught by the wind. On his hands he wears gauntlet gloves and has a belt and buckle as well as a sash. The sash carries his sabre at his side. He is wearing tall, thigh length boots. Behind Falstaff is a pink and blue wicker theatre chest which is partially covered by a cloth. The folds of the fabric pool around his feet.
