Description
Offered for sale is "The Hunting Man" plate one of the nine character plates in the Royal Doulton "The Professionals" seriesware collection. This version is unusual and differs from the others in that there is no version number on the back and the backstamp is one used exclusively between 1923 and 1927 where the lion is not standing on the crown.
The plate has a scalloped edge rather than circular and is painted in a warm pinkish colour with transparent hunting motifs rather than a white ground with coloured motifs. The Hunting Man's attire is coloured differently too. He has a royal blue cap and matching waistcoat instead of a black cap and yellow waistcoat. His cravat is a vibrant yellow rather than a pale blue striped one and his jacket is a deep scarlet red rather than the more muted red of the usual plates. The background is lighter in colour, the wall is white and the fox is a single colour( no white on the muzzle). This plate feels considerably heavier than the others in the series too.
