Description
Stunning pair of antique Worcester Vases in perfect condition. A C Lewis for Royal Worcester, a pair of Hadley Ware vases, dated 1905, in a pedestal urn form, hand painted with pheasants on branches in pine woodland. The painting continues around the reverse as seen on the photos. Gold detailing to the top and foot. The vases are especially significant in the history of the Royal Worcester pottery. After a very strained relationship with Hadley Worcester, (which involved a high court action in Royal Worcester favour) Hadley was taken over by Royal Worcester in 1905 following the death of its founder (and previous Royal Worcester employee) James Hadley. The signed green marks 'Hadleyware and Royal Worcester' were only used together between June 1905-March 1906 after which Royal Worcester dropped the Hadley name. Thus ending a rather acrimonious relationship. These vases are especially striking and given the history of the pieces a must for any collector! Base: signed, green marks. Province: From the Roundlewood House Collection.
