This painting has been professionally and sensitively cleaned, retaining the varied colours. It has also been re-framed and mounted to the highest of standards. John Ernest Aitken was born in Liverpool in 1881 and was the son of Scottish born marine artist, James Aitken. He studied at the Manchester, Liverpool and Wallasey Schools of Art whilst also being taught by his father. He moved with his father to the Isle of Man in 1911 and remained in Port St Mary until his death in 1957. A commercially successful and prolific artist, John Ernest Aitken exhibited his works with the Royal Academy and Royal Institute.
