Based in stunning Speyside, Moray, Scotland, we (Mr & Mrs W) are passionate about quality antique items with great design and evident craft, predominantly from the 18th, 19th and early 20th century.
In particular, we enjoy period items reflecting the beautiful design and aesthetic changes from the decorative arts, from circa 1850 - 1960. Including the Aesthetic Movement, Art Nouveau, Arts & Crafts Movement (In particular of Scottish origin), Modernism, Art Deco and Streamlining. We also enjoy the great craft and quality construction in folk art and vernacular items from across Europe. In particular, Scandinavian decorative items from the 18th and 19th Century. We enjoy being analytical in our approach and supporting our stock with background research, provenance and history through researching the items, the period, designers and retailers.
We often hunt the country from our Scottish location, but routinely search from Lancashire and Yorkshire as well as buying trips further afield to supply items online. We also like to take on items that particularly interest us from earlier periods, dependent on our fascination for an object.
We are always learning, and happy to share knowledge gained, so please do get in touch. Thanks for viewing our selection of stock, we are always pleased to see items pass through our hands to new owners and homes as antiques remain a great green recyclable purchase!

For sale is a bright and charming Swedish folk art writing slope / desk box in Baltic blue paint with 'Rosmålning' decoration to the sloping lid with a poignant message within.
- The writing slope is painted in a bright and bold Baltic blue with red and green edge highlights. The desk box has an angled / sloping lid and bevelled edge to the lid. The construction is of dove tail joints. The box has been painted throughout, except the base and internally.
- The sloped lid has a central 'Rosmålning' decorative floral motif above a painted date of 1733.
- The writing slope is of pine construction with two original hand wrought ironwork, strap hinges and lock (but no key is present).
- Internal to the writing desk box is a small lidded section with flip-up inner lid. The internal section also has a hidden section by lifting the front section to this internal compartment to reveal another storage space.
- Inside the lid to the box the following inscription has been made in pencil (text in brackets is additional) and is though to state:
"This box came to Hälle (a place in Östersund Municipality, Jämtland County, Sweden)
in 1914 from Bodal (Ornö island, Stockholm archipelago),
given by Ida Jansson,
and should thus become Ida’s children’s.
Brunflo Hälle,
Erik Lundkvist"
So the box moved from Southern Sweden in the Stockholm archipelago in 1914 with Ida Jansson to Jämtland County in the middle of Sweden bordering Norway. The box itself is either 18th or 19th Century and the paint looks to be original to the box, and this may match the original 1733 date to the lid. Ready to be used as a beautiful antique desk box or stationary storage for the next owner in its lifespan.

condition
condition
Please consider the photographs and description as a great record of the condition of this antique item.
Wear, paint abrasion and age related marks, please refer to the pictures. The lid has evidence of a crack presumed to be due to forcing the lid shut against the lock mechanism. This presumably caused by the twisted ironwork of one hinge, this has been very well repaired and remains in solid and great condition for the future.
