Description
Technical Description A beautiful engraved Scottish bracelet with fourteen half-circle glass agates. Fully hallmarked for Ward Brothers; Glasgow, year letter ‘e’ for 1953, the lion rampant and the thistle for Scotland. Every other link is stamped with the lion rampant and the tongue clasp closure is in full working order. Each piece of carved glass is set flush to its decorative border. They resemble the agates and jaspers found from the Isle of Rum bloodstones to the Firth of Fourth and come in various colours including rust red and opalescent turquoise. The safety chain is intact and attached to both ends. Date & Origin Scotland, Glasgow, 1953. Period of Queen Elizabeth II. Condition Excellent, age-related wear as shown. The clasp is in full working order and the safety chain is attached - there is one replacement link-loop. Dimensions Length: 16.5 cm once closed Cabochons: 1.3 cm Historical Context On the 24th of June 1953 Queen Elizabeth II made her first state visit to Scotland since her accession only one year earlier; the Honours of Scotland were carried before the monarch for the first time since 1822 and presented to her at St Giles' Cathedral, Edinburgh.
