Solid Gold Edwardian Locket With 9ct Gold Chain

Enchanting solid gold Edwardian double photo keepsake locket which is paired with an elegant 18 inch 9 carat gold belcher chain necklace. This locket was assayed* (tested for gold purity*) at Chester Assay Office in 1907. This antique was crafted by Henry Griffith & Sons. This piece is ornamented with romantic symbolism. The pleasing symmetry of the anterior surface comprises a shield shaped cartouche which graces the bottom center. Florid acanthus leaves appear to emanate from the middle of the shield. Above this a single well placed ivy leaf is framed by more acanthus leaves. Clear and full sets of hallmarks are stamped on the posterior surface. The hallmarks are framed by three acanthus leaves. In the middle a beautiful forget-me-not flower. The composition is further enhanced by a semi-circular design of ivy leaves. The shield symbolises the desire to protect. Acanthus leaves convey the desire for everlasting life. Feelings of deep respect and love are expressed by the depiction of the forget-me-not flower. Ivy leaves signify the bonds of love, fidelity, longevity & devotion. This locket necklace is sound in every way & in first rate condition. The catch and hinge work perfectly. The interior case is lined with pristine pale green watered silk. This antique is suitable to wear as a pendant necklace or to house two photographs or portraits.
