Description
Highly collectable boxed surgical and medical instruments. The box is solid mahogany and is in very good condition. No missing or replaced wood. No shrinkage splits. Original inlaid brass cartouche and escutcheon. Original hinges and lock with a replacement working key supplied. The interior features all of the original velvet lining, dividers, lid complete with original turned knob, brass swing retainers and removable tray with storage space beneath. No tears to the velvet and original pull tabs still fully intact. The instruments are of course the main attraction. In terms of those bearing the maker’s details they are: 1 scalpel made by John. W. Wood. 3 instruments by Arnold & Sons. 1 folding/locking single blade scalpel by Mathews (only ‘thews’ shown’). 1 double bladed folding/locking scalpel by Durrroch. 11 scalpels and other instruments made by Weedon (all within the tray, these eleven instruments are, I believe, are original to the box). There are a further 9 items within the box - please see the photographs that represent the items better than my words. However 3 are worthy of a few words. (i) An ivorine item that unscrews to reveal a pointed instrument. (ii) Though void of a hallmark what is believed to be a solid silver container for perhaps needles? (iii) A small oval ivorine container that unscrews. I doubt these items were original to the box but all contents that came with the item are included. Scan the web to see that the instruments alone sell for more than the asking price for all instruments and the box. Bargain!! For Sale Within UK Only. Additional Information.
