Solid Silver Evening Bag / Bridal Clutch 1950s

An enchanting fully hallmarked solid silver minaudiere / bridal clutch crafted in the 1950s by Marzi & Pellegrini. The lid is adorned with a pretty arbor vitae (tree of life) and colourful paste 'gems'. Masters of bright-cut engraving the engraved borders gleam as they catch the light. This item is so well made it will never need to be cleaned. The original protective pouch with the name of the luxury jeweller 'Donovan & Seamans Co.' is also present. The surfaces that are not engraved with finely detailed floral motifs have an engine turned design of very fine vertical lines. These decorative techniques were used to prevent fingerprints from showing on splendid & precious vanity cases. All clasps & hinges work exactly as they should. The interior contains an excellent mirror. The inner case contains three compartments. Each lid of the compartments is decorated with fine engravings. The largest one on the left is for paper money and make-up. In between these compartments is the original tiny Lucite comb which sits in its solid silver sprung holder. The comb is fashioned to resemble tortoise shell. To the right of the comb two lidded powder wells. Imagine the delight of the collector on opening them for the first time to see the original pristine vivid blue and pink down puffs! Not only this but they are on the original unused velour edged sifters. The sifters are placed on top the protective cardboard inserts that were placed in the powder wells at the point of manufacture to protect the silver from the chemicals in the face powder. But this elaborate nécessaire has never been used to store powder. There is also a sprung lipstick holder. The hallmarks are clearly visible '202FI' & '800' silver. This is an extremely rare & luxurious accessory which comprises entirely of fully hallmarked solid silver. The whole piece is in excellent condition. The dimensions ensure that it is suitable as a bridal clutch or an impressive accessory for that special day / evening when only something unique will do. This solid silver minaudiere / nécessaire measures 5 1/2" x 4" & weighs 453.4 grams.
