This is an eye-catching sterling silver and guilloche enamel Mappin & Webb loose powder compact dating to 1969.
This beautiful fully hallmarked compact mirror is decorated with the most quintessentially English hand painted floral bouquet. Yellow, pink and red poppies interspersed with golden ears of wheat. The whole piece is in excellent condition.
The interior contains a good clear mirror. The vermeil powder well is stamped with hallmarks which are easy to read. All clasps and hinges work perfectly. The base is engraved with minute diamond shapes. This high quality vanity measures 3' and weighs 106.8 grams. The original sifter is present and so this compact is suitable for all loose face powder or as a handbag mirror. An immaculate black pouch made from good quality felt is included with this item.
Mappin & Webb have been the choice of royalty throughout the world since the time of the Queen of France, Marie Antoinette. In 1897 Queen Victorian granted a Royal Warrant to Mappin & Webb. Today, Mappin & Webb hold warrants to both Queen Elizabeth Ii and the Prince of Wales. Mappin & Webb's master craftsman, Mark Appleby, is the Crown Jeweller.
