This is a superb quality French, Charles X mahogany commode chest, in splendid condition with a wonderful rich colour, dating from around 1830. The substantial chest has beautiful decorative gilt bronze handles and escutcheons which have wonderful detail. The upper frieze drawer has a working lock and key. The three deep drawers beneath run freely in the cabinet and give a substantial storage capacity. This chest has a rare feature in that there is a secret drawer in the base of the piece that you would not realise was there. The flame mahogany is excellent throughout with a fabulous decorative grain and lovely rich colour and patina and the figured marble top is in beautiful clean condition.
A most handsome early French piece of the very best quality.
We also have another very similar example currently listed that make’s for a very near pair of superb chests should you require two. (shown in the last photo.)
This listing is for one chest only.
