Description
Truly spectacular long-case clock by Thomas Burchall of Nantwich. The oak case with mahogany cross-banding is principally made from crosscut oak which shows up the medullary rays in the timber and gives a whole new meaning to the term "oak case". It has a beautiful age related patina produced by years of careful waxing and attention. A swan-neck pediment to the hood with tapered, reeded columns to the front. Brass Doric capitals and it's original ball and eagle finial to the top. Gilded paterae.
The trunk with quartered, reeded columns and raised and fielded panel below the door. The base again with raised and fielded panel and standing on ogeed bracket feet.
The arched brass dial has a silvered chapter ring with engraved, black Roman numerals. It has both subsidiary date and seconds dials and a silvered cartouche signed "Fugo Fuge". It has gilded spandrels to the corners and the cartouche and is signed with the makers name. The 8 day movement strikes on a bell on the hour. It has just been fully overhauled by our Bhi registered staff and carries our usual 12mths full parts and labour guarantee.
A very impressive clock.
