Description
Tommaso Saulini (Italian 1793-1864). A large signed shell cameo of a lady wearing an earring and a pearl necklace. Signed “T Saulini F”. In a pinchbeck pendant mount. Tomasso Saulini and his son Luigi were among the most celebrated cameo carvers in 19th-century Rome. Recorded by Murray's Guides to Rome as having been working there from 1853. Tommaso Saulini exhibited at the 1862 International Exhibition in London and carved cameos for the Royal Order of Victoria & Albert. Very good. Some stress lines in the cameo background at top left. A gap in the beading surrounding the mount at upper right and light verdigris showing there and on the bale.
