Description
Is it unfinished or is creative art? Getting inside the artists mind...
Step into the mind of the artist and see their vision come to life in a partially completed masterpiece. Well, some would say this is not a masterpiece, but an expression of art. How you interpret art is a personal experience. In this case, when I saw this nice oil on canvas and its similar companion piece, I was drawn in by the colours, texture and composition the artist created.
I particularly like the charming unfinished look where the artist, in the case F Ferron, has created in this Triptych of fruits on three separate squares, in an abstract manner. Linked by delicate translucent strips of colour. The panels are over written with letters, numbers and bold font. Look closely and the borders surrounding the squares are left in a raw linen canvas.
Another nice, but if you blink you could miss it on first glance, is the typographical print to the bottom of the right hand block. Very nice partially hidden touch.
When you add the inner border, carefully designed frame, linear and circled foliate markings, subtle washed out oil colours, the whole piece is pulled together nicely.
Lets expand on the methodology...
An oil painting where only part of the canvas is painted is called an "unfinished" or "partially completed" painting. Alternatively, it could also be referred to as a "partial painting" or "half-finished painting."
Sometimes artists intentionally leave parts of a canvas unfinished to create a sense of movement or to draw attention to specific areas of the painting. This technique is known as "implied space" or "implied motion."
Another nice touch is the way the paint is applied thickly and you end up with rough edges meeting the linen canvas, which creates another valuable dimension.
Signed on reverso Ferron 99 and also paint Ff on the centre panel. Provenance label on the back: Sibman Gallery, France.
Shown with the companion piece 1001680 available seperately.
