A very unusual Georgian sampler mounted in a trumeau type mirror. The sampler is a lovely example with typical silk on linen needlework. The design is that of elaborate buildings in a garden setting with a fence around, there are figures, and birds, and flowers. The centre is occupied by a religious verse with the date of 1816 and the name, Harriet Davies, aged 12. The majority of the needlework is in a simple cross stitch with some lovely raised work for flowers and the ribbon around the verse. The sampler is in good condition with no holes or losses, there is some slight fading as would be expected. The mirrored insert with the sampler is very unusual, I have never seen a sampler with a mirror like this before. The frame is mahogany which is in good condition with a good original colour and patina. The mirror plate is probably the original and does have some typical minor foxing.
The whole is very unusual, in great condition and with a wonderful period country house look.
