Description
This is a twin handled Upchurch pottery vase with a thick glaze slip.
The glaze is almost like molten lava.
The top third in a greener colour compared to the greyish main body.
Signed underneath; scratched into the pottery body. Fairly substantial proportions for Upchurch. A job lot price can be available on all four items. Purportedly retailed by Heals of London. The pottery was started in 1909.
Edward Baker is the most important name associated with the pottery works and also Edward Spencer who designed for the Martin Brothers previously.
Edward Bakers son managed the company in its latter years as well as becoming the owner.
Upchurch Pottery is highly prized and very collectable.
