Rare late 19th Century Victorian antique FH Ayers hickory golf club Sunday walking stick or cane. Know as such as you weren't allowed to play games on a Sunday in those times
so the canes were made to disguise the purpose they were used for and as a sign of protest.
The silver collar has a full London hallmark with the date letter for 1893 and the makers mark for Jonathan Howell & Co Ltd of Old Street, London. Fh Ayers name is stamped to the foot of the club, they were games and sports manufacturers who's name is also linked to their famous rocking horses.
The club head is carved hardwood with a red deer antler inset and a lead weighted to the rear. The head is attached to a hickory shaft with a cast brass ferrule.
Lovely quality and well made with no damage or repairs to any part of the cane.
