Victorian Burmantofts Grotesque Spoon Warmer

A wonderful Burmantofts faience spoon warmer in a turquoise glaze, modelled as a grotesque frog type creature, sitting with its mouth open to hold the spoons. Spoon warmers were a quirky Victorian idea and were filled with hot water to keep serving spoons and cutlery warm. Burmantofts made them in a variety of highly sought after grotesque designs. I absolutely love this and was looking for one for a long time before I managed to get my hands on this one. It is a fantastic design and is in what I think is the best colourway; a lovely rich turquoise blue. I will be very sorry to see it go, but sadly I can’t keep everything! Hopefully I’ll come across another one day…
