Description
Charming George Jones majolica tray with a fox creeping out of the foot rim and over the edge on one side and his tail wrapped around the foot of the dish and up over the rim on the other. The dish features a turquoise ground, ochre rim and overlapping moulded maple leaves. Very finely modeled detail to the fox facial features, paws and texture of the fur. Fully marked to the back with the George Jones seal mark and diamond registration stamp. Design registered in 1869, the printed mark is a bit obscure but I think it shows a date letter for this year also.
Reference: George Jones Ceramics 1861-1951, Cluett, plate 38.

condition
condition
Condition is excellent: the tip of the fox's left ear has been professionally and invisibly restored. No damage or other restoration and minimal surface wear, a small firing line across the tail, a very nice example.
