Inlaid mid 1800’s rosewood jewellery box in excellent condition. No missing or replaced veneer or inlays. Original side hoop handles. Stands on the original wooden ‘bun’ feet. Inlaid Mother of Pear cartouche and escutcheon. Inlaid Mother of Pearl roundels and pewter strips to the top and front. Gently sloping sides to the base and lid, the style of the box heavily influenced by those from the earlier Regency period. The lid closes perfectly square on the original brass ‘stop’ hinges. Original lock with a replacement working key supplied.
The interior has been refurbished to a very high standard. Silk panel to the lid interior. Removable tray with open storage space beneath with a lightly padded silk panel to the base. Nice finishing touches to the tray with the side metal handles, gilt finished ring pulls to the 4 lids and last but certainly not least, the silk top edging to all of the tray edging and dividers. The 14 storage sections are ideal for the likes of rings, earrings etc and the generous storage space beneath the tray ideal for those larger items of jewellery. A highly attractive antique box, circa 170 years old and in a condition certain to please. Beautifully refurbished interior ready for modern day use.
