Description
A fine lacquered brass aneroid pocket barometer by Negretti & Zambra No 16899 c.1890.
Pocket barometer having 1¾” enamelled and transfer printed dial with semi circular barometric scale calibrated in inches of mercury with a range from 28” – 31” divided down to 1/20th, the lower part with scroll decoration, and further marked with hand painted maker’s details “Negretti & Zambra, London” and serial no. “16899.” Fine blued steel pointer, bevelled glass, bezel driven barb index.
Standard Vidie pattern movement, Negretti & Zambra 2nd pattern, driven from a single 1” nickel alloy capsule and tensioned on a coil spring. Decorated chassis, the verso struck “3.” Presented in a substantial semi barrel form ribbed case, pendant and bow, calibration port to verso.
Condition: The subject of a full service, conservation, and calibration under laboratory conditions. The barometer working very well, see performance chart. Generally very crisp, the dial undamaged, the brass case retaining virtually all its original lacquered finish. The bezel with index turning freely.
Comments: A really good crisp example in way above average condition. Very much a collectors piece.
