Description
Decorative and amusing late 19th century antique German "Sitzendorf" porcelain "Owl" oil lamp, the base with underglaze blue "crossed swords" Maker's Mark, suggesting that the piece was almost certainly manufactured in Saxony, by either Sitzendorf or one of their contemporaries during the latter part of the nineteenth century. The hook billed creature with typical upright stance gazing from what are probably replacement eyes, good clean brass burner, the wick winder buttons each marked Duplex, the whole ensemble topped off with a lovely early 20th Century Vintage amber glass shade decorated in the "Art Nouveau" manner with sprays of lilies, replacement clear glass chimney as one would expect.
