This is a handsome antique steamer trunk dating to the early 20th century. Made from pine and beech it is solid and well made and would have once been used as a piece of luggage on long rail and sea journeys. The trunk is covered in brown vellum and has beech banding, to each end is a leather carrying handle. The lid has metal catches at either side to keep it closed, the central catch is no longer working. The lid lifts up to reveal a paper lined interior and a lift out tray. There are internal ties to keep clothes in place and generally the interior is in superb condition for its age. There is an old railway label to the exterior and the top of the lid bears the last owners initials 'M.A.C' printed in black lettering.
