Description
This is an exceptional, fine and impressive vintage George VI English sterling silver Art Deco three piece condiment set - boxed; an addition to our dining vintage silverware collection. This exceptional vintage George VI three piece sterling silver condiment set consists of a salt, a pepper pot and a mustard pot. The pieces of this fine silver condiment set have a rectangular-shaped form to a paralleling pedestal foot. The surface of each piece is plain and embellished with a concave fluted decoration comprising concentric circular motifs, all in the desirable and iconic Art Deco style. The mustard pot is fitted with an impressive angular handle and a hinged hallmarked plain cover. The pepper pot is fitted with a push fit cover with pierced 'pepper' holes. The covers to the pepper pot and mustard pot are surmounted with a sterling silver faceted Art Deco style finial. The salt and mustard pot are fitted with removable blue glass liners. This Art Deco silver condiment set retains the original salt and mustard spoons. These fine examples of vintage silverware are fitted to the original hinged leatherette box with satin and velvet lined interior, securing with two hinged catches. Each piece of this exceptional set, including the original spoons, were crafted by the Birmingham silversmith Ernest W Haywood; these pieces will have been crafted in fewer years but due to the hallmarking system the spoons bear the date letter for 1946 (W), the salt and pepper display the letter for 1947 (X) and the mustard pot feature the letter for 1948 (Y). Such original examples are becoming increasingly difficult to locate. Maker: Ernest W Haywood Origin: Birmingham, England
