Metamec (Metalwork & Mechanics) of Dereham, Norfolk, started in 1941 as a branch of furniture manufacturer Jentique, making wooden cases for instruments and bombs during the Second World War. In about 1947 they began making high-end clocks, becoming prolific manufacturers of quality timepieces. In the 1980s they suffered from German and Far Eastern competition and were bought out in 1985 by Fki of Halifax. The Dereham plant was run by Ross Consumer Electronics until 1995, when the factory closed. The clocks are still made today under the Metamec name, in Derbyshire.
This would make a lovely gift or addition to your collection.
