Description
A Japanese hard wood (don't know which one..) framed vintage shop counter display unit made in the 1960s or 1970s probably though could be earlier. The sides and top are glazed and inside there are two glass shelves supported by three adjustable shaped metal brackets. Plainly styled but elegant. Quite low for a regular counter but usable; could be raised up a bit or of course used on top of a base. There are four glazed sliding doors which are intended to be the back, or shop assistant side of the piece but there's no reason why you shouldn't have the doors at the front, and use it as a normal cupboard or display cabinet. condition
Condition is pretty good structurally: it's solid and doesn't flex; the glass is a bit rattly in places but not bad. Could be helped with a bead of silicone round the inside maybe. The glass doesn't seem to be toughened, though the shelves might be (or their edges have been polished). With this in mind, I have not secured the top panes, which were getting loose. I've removed them, cleaned them and put them back. I can easily silcone them in place if required, but if this is to be used in a shop then you might want to replace the top with toughened glass. Not easy to remove the old glass from silicone. Cosmetically there are plenty of bumps, scrapes and marks, as well as wear to the varnish, but this is all pretty much part of the look (see pics). A couple of little scratches on the glass.
