Lovely Anglo-American striking wall clock. The handcrafted case being made in England (almost certainly in either London or Liverpool), whilst the clocks New Haven Clock Company movement was imported from the Us.
• Hinged full-length glazed front door, incorporating a spun brass bezel.
• Highly decorative and beautifully patinated Mahogany and Burr Walnut case.
• Chisel shaped drop box.
• Clock retains much of its original hand-crafted timber embellishment, including finials, turned side-columns and internal fretwork.
• Original painted metal dial with black Roman numerals and the jewellers “G.C Hardwick, Burton on Trent” legend.
• Original blued steel American Spade hands.
• Original case-back mirror secured to the rear of the drop-down aperture.
• Efficient 8-day New Haven stamped pendulum driven movement, set between two skeleton brass plates.
• Clock strikes its original cast iron bell on the hours.
• Comes with its original mercurial shaped pendulum and brass winding key.
George Charles Hardwick, born 1864, was a watchmaker and prestigious clock and watch jeweller in Burton, and impressively, the brand still trades today as a quality general jeweller from their original outlet at 170 High Street, Burton!
