Small well proportioned and attractive oak & inlay banded longcase clock. The long trunk door with reeded columns. as is the hood door. all raised on a shaped apron.
The good quality brass dial with silvered centre and chapter ring. grand corner spandrels with crisp cherub heads indicating early to mid 18th century - George (II) or earky georgian period.
William Harley was born in 1702 into a family of Clockmakers. In 1717 he was apprenticed to Thomas Gorsuch. He died in 1764 at the age of 62.
He had a Clockmaker son called Samuel born in 1740 (d 1799). He too had a Clockmaker son called William (II) who was also a Goldsmith who died in 1843. From 1788 - 1802 they Traded as W Harley & Son. There was also a George Harley circa 1784.
The good quality 8 day movement has been checked, serviced & tested to be in good antique working order.
