Arthur Claude Strachan was born in Edinburgh and was a fine watercolourist best known for his sentimental pictures of flower wreathed cottages and village scenes. Strachan studied at Livery College of Art and later travelled throughout Great Britain in order to paint the country life which he loved to portray. He lived in many places including the Cotswolds, Warwick, Evesham, New Brighton, Glasgow, Edinburgh, London, North Wales and Minehead. He exhibited at the Birmingham Art Gallery, the Royal Institute of Watercolour Artists, Royal Academy and the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool.
