When George William Adams married in 1838 it was agreed that he would take over his new wife’s family business. Chawner & Co had been producing silverware since 1815 and continued to thrive and grow under George Adams. They exhibited in the 1851 Great Exhibition and soon became one of the largest producers of quality silver flatware in Victorian England. However in 1883 Adams sold the silver business to the firm of Holland, Aldwinckle & Slater.
Of simple elegant design George Adams silver is widely collected today. At LoveAntiques we have a good selection of antique George Adams and Chawner & Co silver all from trusted UK dealers.
