John Harvey of Weymouth - Clockmaker

John Harvey of Weymouth (born 1758 - died 6th November 1829, aged 71). Civil engineer, responsible for the first plan for a breakwater in the Portland Roads. He ran Harvey’s library in Weymouth, from where he also traded as a clockmaker, watchmaker and jeweller. Self-styled ‘Clock and Watchmaker to the King’, he attended Geroge III on his visits to Weymouth. He made many fine longcase clocks of the highest quality, two regulators, bracket clocks and watches too.
