Royal Academy listed artist Margaret Milne (1908-1998) was a painter who was born in Wimbledon, London, into a family of painters, her great-grandfather was the Victorian landscape artist George Chester, (1813-1897). Milne studied at Regent Street Polytechnic from 1926-30, and after World War II she worked as a freelance book illustrator on commissions from publishers Raphael Tuck. By the mid-1950's she had turned to portrait painting and showed at the Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists and at the Paris Salon. Milne had her own gallery in Ditchling, Sussex where she exhibited her own work and also showed locally at Hove Museum & Art Gallery.
