Martinot clocks are a product of the Martinot dynasty, a family of clockmakers in Paris who were active from the 16th to 18th centuries. The quality of their clocks were considered to be the finest in the world. Martinot clocks are often housed in beautiful cases such as this one and were made by other artists, such as Jean-Michel Ziegler and André-Charles Boulle. They are in the collections of many of the world's finest museums, including the Musée du Louvre, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Museum of Art, Cleveland, Ohio.
