A very good late 18th century, circa 1785, South Staffordshire enamel patch box, rare in this condition, the lid decorated with a basket of flowers with two doves and foliage behind, set on the ground with plants on either side, framed with gilding and white jeweling on a blue border. The body of the box is in blue enamel with a white base. The interior has an intact mirror in the lid and a white interior to the body.

Exterior: A very small crescent-shaped 5mm crack and tiny loss to the top of the lid at approximately 1 o’clock. A very faint short 3mm hairline at approximately 11 o’clock. Both are nearly imperceptible in normal viewing. The body and base of the box are undamaged. The gilding has worn from the metal mounts. The lid closes firmly.
Interior: The mirror is intact with some corrosion. The interior enamel is undamaged.
