This exceptional antique Chinese silver hip flask has a rectangular form with rounded sides.
This impressive 1930s flask has a subtly curved form proffering a comfortable fit in the majority of pockets.
The anterior surface of the flask is ornamented with impressive engraved decoration depicting an iconic undulating dragon design on a textured background.
The decoration to the body incorporates a circular cartouche to the centre bearing the engraved initials 'Eb'.
The posterior surface and sides of the flask are plain and unembellished.
This large antique hip flask is fitted with a plain domed fully hallmarked hinged cover, securing with a bayonet fitting.
The hallmarks struck to the underside of this fine flask include:
Maker's mark: Wai Kee
Silver quality/purity mark: 90, Silver (900/1000)
This flask has been tested for watertightness and is ready for use.
To ensure the flask remains water tight, the cork should be moist and therefore fully expanded to provide an effective seal.
There are two recommended methods to ensure the cork does not dry out and shrink:
Method One: Keep fluid in the flask at all times, and keep the flask on its side to ensure the cork remains wet.
Method Two: Fill the flask to the brim with fluid and close. Leave it like this overnight, or 24 hours if possible, before use.
Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of Asian silverware.
