A late 19th century Samson enamel snuff box, of oval lobed form, the lid decorated with a painted portrait on a white ground of Queen Charlotte, wife of King George III, wearing a “God Save the King” hat band. The body of the box is of turquoise enamel. Identified as made by Samson et Cie by the small lug protruding from the hinge to stop the lid opening too far (see reference below).

Exterior: Fine curving 1.5cm hairline to lid. Scuffs to base. Gilding worn from mount.
Interior: Minor marks. Turquoise staining in the indentations between the lobes, where the white enamel is thin.
