Raku Inspired 20th Century Studio Pottery American Pitbull Sculpture. Subject in form of an American Pitbull dog sculpture, which has a wonderful overall smooth surface texture to the touch with white and grey hue colours. Beautifully handmade and so collectible and sought after. Raku generally refers to a type of low-firing process that was inspired by Japanese raku firing. Western-style raku involves removing pottery from the kiln when it is still a bright red heat then placing it into containers with combustible materials. When the materials ignite the containers are shut. This makes an intense reduction atmosphere which affects the colors in glazes also the clay bodies. The drastic thermal shock also produces cracking thus known as crackling since it is deliberate created.
