I specialise in affordable original artworks - mainly traditional watercolours and oil paintings but I also have a range of contemporary artworks including limited edition lithographic prints. I also stock a limited selection of antiques and collectables, including treen, ceramics and glass. I have now opened a shop in Wallingford (OX100BU) between Reading and Oxford, but I also trade online. My website, www.artandstuffgallery.com has a gallery section with several mini-galleries where my items are displayed, including more contemporary items not shown on LoveAntiques.

Description
Of sporting interest: Two engravings, from a set of four, engraved by Thomas Sutherland (1785-1838) after a paintings by Dean Wolstenholme Snr (1757-1837. The set of four was published by Ackerman in 1823. We have Plate Ii ("Breaking Cover") and Plate Iv ("The Death"). The artist's and engraver's names are printed below the image but are obscured by the mount (but see photos taken when the engravings were out of their frame). The printed sheet has been crudely cut so that although the Plate number is visible, the title of the piece is not. However, this is a well known set and the titles are available from other sources.
Dean Wolstenholme snr was considered one of the greatest British sporting artists of his time. He became an artist in middle life when his considerable wealth was lost in some property deal. In 1800 he was obliged to move to London and make what had been a hobby into a career. He exhibited a painting of coursing at Royal Academy in 1803 and continued thereafter until his death in 1837. Many of his paintings were engraved. His son, also called Dean also became a sporting painter.
