Description
A gorgeous and scarce English Majolica posy holder which features two owls standing in front of a tree. The birds are glazed with shades of light and dark grey. They stand upon a triform base which is glazed with shades of brown and green. The inside top rim of the vase parts have a pale blue glazed band. The piece does not appear to bear any maker's or pattern marks, but is assumed to be of English origin. The item is in displayable and useable condition, but does have three reasonable minor flaws: The left-hand owl has a top rim chip and partial crack (which does not travel right through the area), there is a flake to the outside edge of the base between and right-hand owl and the tree. There are two chips to the very top edge of the tree feature. None of these issues, in my opinion, detract from the visual appeal of the piece, or from its usability. The item stands about 4.8 inches (12.2 cm) in height and about 3.5 inches (8.9 cm) in length. This is a very collectible item, perfect for any owl or bird of prey collector.
