This étui (needle case), in spite its small size, presents wonderful and impressive quality on all fronts. The entirety is parcel-gilt (areas of silver and gilt) and has been meticulously designed in a way that the gold highlights the acanthus scrolled motifs whilst the engine-turned background remains silver. Pulling on both ends reveals the inner compartment, once again made with a high degree of care where the ends join perfectly and have a flush fit. Overall, a splendid and exemplary piece demonstrating superb quality regardless of the object's size/utility - a true testament to the opulence and craftsmanship of the era.
