Antique Jewellery Chest & Pin Cushion in Silver Plate

This lovely silver plate jewellery box / sewing casket was very ‘down at heel' when we acquired it recently. The interior was beyond redemption, the domed lid was leaking sawdust and as we subsequently found out, was once home to a family of woodworm. As you will see in the photographs, after stripping down, treating the wood to stop any further woodworm from moving in; the plate has been retained in ‘as found’ condition, the interior relined with a silk interior, backed onto a lovely hand dyed velvet exterior. To finish the overall presentation of this regenerated antique, we have re-padded the domed lid and covered with more of the velvet to provide a large pin-cushion cum needle holder. Just in case you think the whole ensemble is understated we have added a variety of sequins, beads, and artificial pearls to the circumference of the lid as a finishing flourish.
