Antique Solid Gold Locket Necklace

A beautiful 9 carat gold locket which was assayed* (tested for gold purity*) at Chester Assay Office in 1918. Both sides are ornamented with elaborate engravings which convey the most romantic sentiments. The anterior surface of this locket is graced with a shield shaped cartouche which is framed by sinuous acanthus leaves. A single forget-me-not flower at the base of the shield completes the wonderful composition. The posterior surface is ornamented with finely crafted acanthus leaves. A single ivy leaf sighted at the top of the locket and a forget-me-not flower at the base. The shield cartouche conveys the desire to protect the wearer of the locket. Acanthus leaves symbolise the desire for longevity. Ivy leaves portray deep friendship, fidelity and devotion. Forget-me-not flowers are depicted to portray the feelings of true love and respect. The interior case is fitted with luxurious pale golden green watered silk liners. The hinge and catch work perfectly. The original solid gold frames are present along with a with two clear portrait protectors. This beautiful antique is ideal for everyday wear.
