Exceptional, fine and impressive antique George V English sterling silver four piece tea and coffee set; part of our silver teaware collection
This exceptional antique sterling silver tea and coffee set consists of a teapot, coffee jug, cream jug and sugar bowl.
Each piece of this impressive silver tea set has a rectangular panelled form with cut corners.
The body of each piece is encompassed with bands of bright cut engraved scrolling motifs, flanked with undulating wrigglework decorated borders.
The shoulders of the teapot and coffee jug, and the rim of the cream jug and sugar bowl are encompassed with a cast and applied gadroon decorated border.
The teapot and coffee jug are both fitted with domed panelled, hinged hallmarked covers ornamented with further wrigglework decoration to the rims.
Each cover is surmounted with the original, fine and impressive sterling silver topped, carved pineapple shaped finial, accented with protruding leaf designs to the lower portion. Such finials indicate the fine quality of a service.
The teapot and coffee jug are fitted with the original, impressive carved stained wood handles, with plain scrolling thumbpieces and cylindrical solid silver sockets.
The cream jug and sugar bowl are fitted with cast sterling silver scrolling handles embellished with plain plateaued thumbpieces to the upper portion.
The teapot has a plain tapering cylindrical spout and the coffee jug has a truncated spout with a subtle curved upper portion.
