Exceptional, fine and impressive antique English sterling silver gilt castle top vinaigrette depicting Dryburgh Abbey; an addition to our collectable box collection.
This exceptional antique William IV sterling silver gilt vinaigrette has a rectangular form with rounded corners.
The cover of this fine vinaigrette box is embellished with a rare scene of Dryburgh Abbey* in high relief.
The sides of the box are embellished with panels of engine turned decoration.
The underside of the box is ornamented with engine turned decoration incorporating a vacant rectangular cartouche.
Both the base and cover are embellished with applied scrolling leaf decorated borders.
The hinged silver gilt vinaigrette cover allows access to the original hinged pierced decorated silver gilt grille.
This antique box retains the original gilding to the interior and exterior surfaces.
This exceptional case was crafted by the renowned Birmingham silversmith Nathaniel Mills.
* This abbey is situated in the Scottish Borders and is the burial place of the renowned novelist and poet Sir Walter Scott.

This antique silver castle top vinaigrette is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition. The cast and applied decoration is very sharp.
Full hallmarks struck across the interior of the cover and base are all very clear.
