Description
This superb Chippendale revival mahogany desk was made in one of the finest workshops of the period circa 1900. Probably Gillows or Edwards and Roberts, who both were renowned cabinetmakers of the period, who made furniture to this incredible high standard. Only a handful of cabinetmakers could construct and make an item to this standard.
The desk is a serpentine shape to the front sides and rear, as well as having a concave central drawer. There are 2 drawers to each side of the kneehole and the concave central drawer between them, all the drawers are fitted the original gilt brass handles. The edge of the desk is carved with fine carving that borders the original inset leather work surface. At each corner there are the stunning carved cabriole legs, in the high-Chippendale style. The cabinetmakers used the best craftsmen and highest-grade timber available.
Imagine the pleasure you will get owning this spectacular desk and the conversations of admiration from your family and friends, as you purr over it.
When this desk was originally made it would have been to someone of major wealth, as it would have come with a hefty price ticket. The major consideration when this was made, was not the final price but that is was to be made to the finest standards, and using the finest materials.
On occasions customers have been disappointed to miss an item as they e-mailed their enquiry instead of phoning, I would recommend that if you wish to get the piece, please call rather than e-mail.
