Description
Victorian camphor wood campaign chest
This Victorian camphor wood campaign chest was made circa 1870.
This lovely chest has its original brass corners and straps, these were not only for ornament but also for the practical use of giving protection it as it was loaded onto ships, wagons, and mules as it was to be transported around the Far East carrying the British officers belongings.
It is made of camphor wood, this wood was used as it deters the insects from eating the uniforms etc that were inside. When you lift the lid you get the beautiful gentle perfume of the wood.
These Antique camphor wood chests make wonderful coffee tables and make wonderful conversation pieces. I'm sure your family and friends will have their imaginations spared by wondering what scrapes and events it has been through.
